Irondequoit,
New York is a charming suburb of Rochester,
the state's third largest city. The Genesee
River borders Irondequoit to the west, and Irondequoit
Bay, the eastern border, is known as one of the
finest fishing bays in New
York State. Irondequoit lies directly on the
shores of beautiful Lake
Ontario, once known as the 'Coney Island of
Western New York. In its early years,
Irondequoit served as a resort and vacation area for
neighboring Rochester.
Today,
Irondequoit is a thriving modern community of more
than 52,000 residents (Census 2000 data). While
still a wonderful tourist town, Irondequoit's economy
is diversified and has a host of other businesses.
Like all of Monroe
County and the Greater Rochester
Metropolitan Area, Irondequoit is growing rapidly
with an influx of new industry and high-technology
firms discovering the region.
Town leaders and residents encourage
growth while keeping a close eye on the natural beauty
and landscape of their home. Irondequoit
intends to maintain and preserve its lovely city.
Irondequoit
residents are known for their civic pride, and
hardworking, conscientious ways. The town boasts
two of the best school districts in the country.
With eight colleges and universities found within
forty miles of the town, higher learning is easily
accessible to Irondequoit high-school graduates. Over
half of the residents have earned college degrees, and
Irondequoit young people seem to be staying in their
hometown at a higher rate than other cities.
Irondequoit
is obviously a water wonderland. The Seabreeze
Amusement Park, first started in 1879, holds
memories of when the city was predominantly a tourist
town. Today it contains over seventy
attractions, from rides
and roller coasters, to a wonderful and wet Waterpark.
Eight
charming parks
grace the city itself, while the river, the bay, and
Lake Ontario offer the finest in fishing, canoeing,
deep-sea fishing and even scuba diving.
Concerts resound at the town mall and the gazebo
in warmer months. Autumn's Oktoberfest
brings two weekends of great fun, celebrating the
area's German and Bavarian heritage. Fine food,
dance, song and beer are featured at this wonderful
festival.Irondequoit,
New York offers the steadfast values of small
community, while giving easy access to all of
the amenities of a major metropolitan city.
