Newark, New York is tucked away along the Erie Canal.  Newark was originally known as Miller's Basin, named in honor of Captain Joseph Miller, who helped to construct that portion of the canal. The Village of Newark, incorporated in 1853, is located in the southern part of the Town of Arcadia. As of the 2000 Census, the village had a total population of 9,682 residents.

Newark is also part of the picturesque Finger Lakes Region of Upstate New York. A drive along the countryside reveals quaint Bed & Breakfasts, wineries, roadside farmers markets, parks and historical sites. The Seaway Trail winds through this rural county, leading the way to outstanding recreational and photographic opportunities. The Erie Canal, which connects the Atlantic Ocean and the Great Lakes, is a year round paradise for fishermen.

The Newark/Arcadia area, known for its drumlins (gently undulating hills) and acres of fertile soil, is home to Brantling Hill, the highest point in Wayne County.  Brantling Hill is the county's only ski slope.   Newark's Zurich Bog is the lowest point in the county.

Small classroom size and personalized attention give Newark public school students an educational advantage. The University of Rochester, Rochester Institute of Technology and Syracuse University are two  of the higher learning facilities available within an hour's drive of Newark. The wide variety of choices provides the prospective student with many opportunities for growth.

Wayne County's strategic location, midway between Syracuse and Rochester, attracts new and established businesses to the area.  Wayne Economic Development Corporation has a business plan in place that helps insure a successful business transition.  As Wayne County's center of industry, Newark is home to companies such as UltraLife BatteriesFold-Pak Corporation and IEC Electronics.

While in Newark, New York, one is free to enjoy the charm of small town living, yet a short drive in either direction provides easy access to The Greater Rochester International Airport or the Syracuse Hancock International Airport.  Newark's rolling hills and striking natural beauty are easily accessible and long remembered..
