Palmyra,
New
York lies along the Erie
Canal, near the south shore of beautiful Lake
Ontario. Located in the northern part of the Finger
Lakes region, Palmyra is the Queen of Canal
Towns. This charming Upstate
New York community is near the state's third
largest city, Rochester.
The Census 2000 reported 7,672 residents.
Lake
Ontario offers a wide variety of
recreational activities and events such as sailing,
water skiing and fishing. Just south of
Palmyra are the beautiful rolling hills and wine
trails of the Finger
Lakes Region. To the northeast,

Palmyra
is a vibrant rural community rich with history. One
can discover the roots of Palmyra at the Palmyra
Historic Museum. Once a thriving
hotel and tavern, the museum is filled with historical
memorabilia contributed by members of the community. Step
into the past at Phelps
General Store, built in 1825, during
the construction of the Erie Canal. The Alling
Coverlet Museum is host to an
amazing collection of homespun coverlets. Palmyra is
also the base for the Hill
Cumorah Visitors Center, built at
the foot of Cumorah Hill, one of the most well
known of the many hills in the Finger
Lakes Region.
A

a short drive of this Wayne County community. The
University
of Rochester and Rochester
Institute of Technology, which ranked in the top
ten of the US
News America's Best Colleges of 2005, are both
within an hour's drive. In addition, many of the
area's public
