Perry,
New York is a wonderful small town found in Wyoming
County. Part of the scenic Greater
Niagara Region of Upstate
New York, Perry is a close-knit community
surrounded by natural splendor, located on the banks
of the beautiful Genesee
River. The town sits just west of the
spectacular Letchworth
State Park, a 15,000-acre stretch of Gorge
containing sparkling waterfalls and lush canyons.
The southern end of Perry includes the Silver
Lake State Park, offering residents the finest in
fishing, boating and camping, along with legends of a
Loch-Ness type sea
serpent to beguile the young. Hunting,
hiking, cross-country skiing and horseback
riding are common activities in this outdoor
wonderland.The
Census 2000 reported Perry's population at 6,654.
Within the town is the village of Perry, with a
population of almost 4,000. The town covers more
than 36 square miles and includes several small
hamlets and communities within it. Perry was
incorporated in 1814. The Perry Knitting Mills
attracted many Polish
immigrants in the early 1900's and helped
establish it as a major town.
Modern-day
Perry sits in an ideal location for commerce, with
easy access to New
York State's transportation infrastructure.
The town is just off Interstate 90, with Rochester
only thirty-five miles away and Buffalo
only forty-three miles. The major cities of Corning,
Syracuse
and Toronto
are each less than one hundred miles distant. Perry
corporations have entry into all of western New York's
markets, as well as
Canada's. Two international airports
are found in Rochester and Buffalo, and the Perry
Warsaw Airport stands available for smaller corporate
flights.
Perry
is well linked to the technological world, with full
Internet and e-commerce services available. The Greater
Perry Area work force contains a highly skilled
labor pool to draw from. More than fifty percent
of the residents have computer and data processing
experience. Forty percent have worked in the
communications industry and more than thirty percent
in manufacturing.
Perry
stands on a plateau overlooking the fertile fields of
the Genesee and Oatka Valleys. Lush fields of
grain, corn, beans and other produce surround the
community. This close-knit, tiny town boasts
more than twenty civic groups and clubs. Private
donations from citizens and local businesses to the
area schools have reached more than a million dollars,
showing the attitude of care and pride Perry residents
take in their home.
Very
family oriented, Perry hosts a wide range of festivals
and events, including the Sea
Serpent Balloon Festival, filling the sky with
delightfully creative hot air balloons in all shapes
and colors. The
Perry Farmer's Market runs each Saturday during
warm weather, a place for the community to come
together and choose from the wonderful fresh produce
of the area, as well as listen to local musicians.
